• For starters, normally you will get cable boxes from the company that supplies your cable. They hook up to your television. Normally, you are charged per cable box. That is how you get charged by your cable company. They will come and install it for you. Then, you are basically leasing the cable boxes when you sign up with a company to receive cable.
Another thing you must understand is that cable boxes have a filter on them. Have you ever wondered how they know what stations you do and don’t get? Well, this is how. They have a scrambler which when you then register with them and pay for your cable, they then descramble the code so you can then watch those stations. There have been some that have cracked the code. They are in jail.
Normally, there are so many channels and in order to get them on the cable boxes, you sign up for different packages. Sometimes, with some of the channels, you might have to have a special box in order to receive them; not just the standard cable boxes that you are familiar with.
When you don’t have service any longer, you will normally have to return the cable boxes. As we explained this before, you are in theory leasing the boxes. Since you are only renting them, when you no longer get service from them, then you no longer have a need for the boxes so they take the cable boxes back. If you don’t return it, they have the right to sue you for them. They might even just charge you for it. Just like with any other things that you rent, if there is any damage to them, and then they can charge you for that as well.

You don’t’ have to worry about paying for a new one as it’s under contract like if you were contracting an apartment or so forth. It’s not your issue then which makes people a bit happier.
There are some modern cable boxes now that you can get a service where you can tape your favorite shows. This would be called a DVR. Many people swear by them as do we. You can tape right from the TV and you don’t even need a VCR or anything like that. It’s a nice feature to have. Just ask someone who has it. Now, you don’t have to worry about missing any of your favorite shows.
